Turtle Song poem by Iris Carden
You've swum the ocean currents for sixty years or more. Have you felt the oceans changing: a bit warmer more than before? On your way to lay your eggs, back on your familiar beach, did you see the difference? Did you see the coral bleach? Did you see the litter that humans left behind. Did you worry for your babies, incubating in the sand? Are the kelp forests still growing the way they always did? Are the fish as plentiful? Are crabs and prawns and squid? Have you seen floating plastic, and thought "jellyfish"? Have you swallowed something strange which made you sick for a bit? Have you gained some wisdom as you've swum around the world? Something you'd tell humans, if you could speak the words? We need to change our ways, We know we really must. If it's too late for you, it could be too late for us.
