Pollie Ticks

Poem by Iris Carden

the pollies are ticking
tick tick tick
money from big business
tick tick tick
listen to lobbyists
tick tick tick
ignore the climate
tick tick tick
flood, fires and more flood
tick tick tick
scapegoat the vulnerable
tick tick tick
create fake issues
tick tick tick
cruelty to refugees
tick tick tick
ignore indigenous
tick tick tick
ignore all women
tick tick tick
assault accusations
tick tick tick
living cost rising
tick tick tick
too slow with vaccines
tick tick tick
weird publicity stunts
tick tick tick
PM makes a curry
tick tick tick
blame previous government
tick tick tick
welfare for the rich
tick tick tick
condemning the poor
tick tick tick
economy comes first
tick tick tick
so humans come last
tick tick tick
politics as usual
tick tick tick
the devil you know
tick tick BOOM!

At the recent (dare I say “explosive”) federal election Australian politics “blew up” while we do have a majority government, it’s a slim majority. The opposition has been reduced by a large amount. The crossbench has grown remarkably. Australians are fed up with politics as usual.
